NZ children wanting to visit parent in China

I am a New Zealander teaching in China for 2 years. My 3 children, aged 20, 22 and 24 want to come and visit me for a short holiday (2 weeks). Can they apply for a L visa as tourists? Applying for an S2 type means they have to provide birth cert etc and they are unable to access these as they are in storage.

Kelly, yes, they can apply for L type as tourists and then enter to visit you. You can write an invitation letter to them. And then they need to provide the passport and copy of its data page, the completed application form affixed with a passport-sized recently-taken color photo, and the invitation letter to apply for the L type.
