About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Will we need a visa ? If so what sort ?

British couple fly into Beijing as part of holiday package stay one night in hotel then board cruise ship and sail to busan South Korea then Nagasaki Japan then Kagoshima Japan then Shanghai China where we arrive at 7am and leave at 11 pm

Mike, as for your stop in Beijing, because it’s less than 24 hours, you can enjoy the 24 hour direct transit. But you will need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the immigration inspection if you will leave the airport to board the cruise ship. The permit is free.
As for your stop in Shanghai, if you will fly to a third country or region rather than Japan after transit in Shanghai, you can use the direct transit. No entry permit is required.
