How do we decline a Chinese wedding invitation without offending?

Please can you inform us how we decline a Chinese wedding invitation. The daughter of an important business colleague is getting married. Bride and groom are both Chinese. It is not possible for us to travel to China for the wedding. We must not cause offence. Please can you advise us - thanks

Oh, it should be a pity that you can't make it. Generally, you should call your colleague to make a sincere apology and state the reason why you cannot come (at least a reliable excuse). At last, don't forget to give the newlyweds your best wishes. You can also mail a small gift to express your blessing. I believe they will understand!
