About:Policy for Foreigners with Immediate Family Living in China

I am from kenya and i wanted to marry a chinese girl who is divorced. her hukou is from fujian.

does that mean that we need to go and register our marriage in fujian? and if so, do i really need a letter from my country of birth stating that am single or showing that i have never been married? the biggest problem is that for me to get that document showing my marital status is a long process and i need to present myself IN person to the office unlike other places where you can get it online....

Hi there! If you want to register your marriage in China, you should go to Fujian to register. Your single-status certificate will be required for submission. You have to get it from your country and then have it attested by the PRC embassy in your country. Or you can contact the Kenyan embassy in PRC and consult whether it can issue this certificate for you.

You can go to your embassy and write a stat dec and have it witnessed and signed by an embassy staff member. That's what I did. It costs about 200 rmb if I remember correctly. And yes, you will need to register the marriage in Fujian province.
