Western part brims with plateaus, basins, mountains, and rivers. It houses the world's highest plateau, Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, CN's biggest basin, Tarim Basin, and the largest inland river in the country, Tarim River.

Longest river- Yangtze River
Largest lake- Qinghai Lake
Climate- diverse range; ranges from tropical in south to subarctic in north
Terrain- mostly mountains, high plateaus, deserts in west and plains, deltas and hills in east
