72 hour free visit with one way flights?

Hello

I plan to take a one way from Hong Kong on cathay pacific into beijing, stay 2 nights, then take a one way on air china from Beijing to taipei. I'll make sure it'll be less than 72 hours. Will this be valid for a visa free visit?
