UK passport holder to Beijing, Can I apply for the 72 hour visa-free transit?

Is a UK passport holder travelling from UK to Hong Kong for 5 days then to Beijing then returning to UK from Beijing able to apply for a 72 hour free transit at Beijing Airport please?
