About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Hi does anyone know how the 72 hour transit visa policy is calculated in Beijing?

Does the 72 hours start from scheduled and departure flight times or from midnight the day of arrival in Beijing? I phoned the Beijing immigration but they weren't much help, thanks.
