About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

do I need an L visa.

I am a USA citizen and I am visiting Beijing. 5/13/2016 and going to Hong Kong for short visit, leaving Beijing on 5/16/2016

Maria, may I know the specific time? If your stopover time in Beijing is less than 72 hours, you can enjoy the 72 hour free transit and don’t need an L type; but if it’s more than 72 hours, you need an L type and should apply for it beforehand.
