Can I Travel to Guangzhou Under 72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I fly from the UK to Guangzhou and then 72 hours later leaves Guangzhou for a weeks holiday in Hong Kong before returning back to the UK, can I stay in Guangzhou without applying for an entry permit?
