About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Beijing three days

Hello,
I'm flying from Paris to Beijing, and depart Beijing for Los Angeles less than 72 hours later. Do I qualify for visa free transit?
I'm a US passport holder.
If so, would I be able to visit the Great Wall of China? Or do I have to stay in Beijing proper?
Thank you!
