Return ticket for entry into PRC

I'll be traveling back to China with my wife (a Thai citizen) who has an S-2 type. I currently have a Z-type and a resident permit. My wife's entry permit is good for 150 days and we would like to leave the departure date open to be flexible. Will immigration, or the airline (China Southern) at check-in, require her to show a return ticket?

Aoy, she won't be required to provide the return ticket as long as her S2 type is still valid.
