Visa requirements for Indian citizens

Hello, I'm an Indian citizen living in United States. I have a 21 hour overnight layover in Guangzhou Baiyun Intl airport for my trip in April. I wanted to know if I require an entry permit to leave the airport and get a hotel for the night if I'll only be staying in PRC for less than 24 hours.
Will there be an issue leaving the airport and getting back in? I'm flying though China Southern airlines.
Thank you!

Madan, if your destination is different from your departure region or country, you don’t need it to leave the airport. You can use the 24 hour direct transit. If you want to leave the airport, you need to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport and it is free of charge. In this case, there will be no any issue.

Thank you Angela, that helps a lot. Yes my flight departure is from United states and final destination is Bangkok but with a layover in Guangzhou for 21 hours.
