renewing residence permit late

Question

So Im a student in Shanghai and I couldnt renew my residence permit before I went back to my home country. What should I do? Some people tell me to apply for tourist type and then for residence permit once I get back to SH. I think student type is safer but I dont have the forms since im the ''old student''. Your opinion?

Sara, considering your situation, you’d better apply for a student X1 type because if you enter with a tourist L type, maybe you cannot change it to an X type sucessfully. As for the form, you can contact with your school and see if you can get a new JW201 or JW202 form.
