Capital city with no Chinese consulate or embassy.

I live in Adelaide Australia, a long way from any PRC consulate or embassy. We hope to visit China in May, 2016 going to Beijing and the Silk Road. How can I go about obtaining a visa without paying exorbitant fees to an organisation who charges for such a service.
