About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I arrive into Beijing from Australia and obtain transit visa, can I then travel onto Dalian

before departing China for Indonesia?

Tania, I’m afraid you cannot travel to Dalian if you use the 72-hour free transit in Beijing. You are only allowed to stay in the administrative region of Beijing.
