Z-visa re-entering possible issues

Hi there, I currently am working with a company that isn't the same one that sponsored my initial work Z type. I quit them on and they refused to give me cancellation of my foreign expert certificate so I was unable to get a new Z type at this current employer. I am still in the same city as the current employer but I will be traveling to the US, and I want to know if I will be able to re-enter china with this Z type and residency permit. They don't expire until May but I'm wondering if the old school could have done anything to affect my legal status here.
