About:Bao'en Temple Pagoda

I am on family visa now & just previously taught ESL here. Can I get new Z Visa in HK?

I taught English in a Chinese City, & after changed to a family type since I didn't know what I would do next. Once a university decides to hire me, can I get new Z type in HK? The plan in that case would be to work for a new university in this Chinese city again. I ask here because misinformation is so rampant, even at universities here who have the job of hiring new teachers. Thanks.

Ted, I think you should visit local entry and exit management bureau first. You can ask if you can change your family type into a Z without leaving. If they say no, then you can go to HK to try your luck. Usually, the bureau suggests you go back to your country to apply. However, I did hear that some foreigners apply successfully in HK. I didn't know whether if they found an agency or not.

Yeah... trying my luck is exactly what I'm hoping to avoid..costly experiments in PRC often go wrong. Officials typically don't know unless your situation is something they deal with every day, and even then it's more luck than reliable info according to a set in stone policy. Maybe I'll try calling the HK office, but there must be a place online to get large sample feedback, just haven't found it yet...

Normally speaking, you cannot directly change your family S type to a work Z type without leaving PRC mainland.
You can go to HK to apply for a NEW Z type, by providing 2 official documents, one of which is employing license and the other of which is Z type notification letter.

It doesn't say S and in fact I had understood it to be a Q type for family residence permit sticker.

The first thing is to find a company in PRC to employ you and then the employer will get the work permit and the invitation letter from duly authorized unit for you. After, you need to prepare your passport and its copy, the application form attached with a passport-style photo, as well as the work permit, the invitation letter and health certificate. And then submit your application to the embassy of PRC in Pakistan to apply for the work Z type.
