About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Is VISA required for a 1 day stop in Shanghai from a cruise ship?

We will be taking a cruise to the Far East next year, and the ship will be docking for 1 day in Shanghai. Will we need an entry permit to get off the ship for the day?

Carol, you don’t need an entry permit because you are eligible for the 24 hour direct transit. But if you want to get off the ship for a visit, you should apply for a temporary stay permit at the frontier inspection.

You can just go to the frontier inspection and apply for it. You may need to provide your passport and cruise ship ticket.
