I hold a Trinidad and Tobago passport and also a valid Japan Visa

however my connection flight is through Beijing, China on my out going flight and Shanghai on my return. Would I need a transit entry permit to pass through PRC?

Shawn, if your total layover time in Beijing or Shanghai is less than 24 hours both times, you don’t need to apply for transit G type because you are eligible for 24 hour direct transit policy.
But if your transit in PRC is more than 24 hours, you should apply for a transit G type ahead of your trip.
