I have heard that China has a holiday where everything will be closed 1-7 October, is this correct and if so am I best off visiting after these dates?

During the National holiday from Oct 01 to Oct 07, the Chinese people will have a 7 days holiday, therefore, the tourist sites are crowded with travellers and at that time the trafic is very bad. However, only some public institutions might be closed.
