hotel reservation for visa application

i will be in China for 3 weeks, but only has hotel reservation for first 10 days, as i want to book the trip as i go along. is this sufficient for the entry permit application?

Also, i may be staying with a friend. does a letter or email from the friend stating that i will be staying with her good enough to meet the requirement.

Kim, as the relevant rule stipulates, the hotel reservation should cover two thirds of your total trip. But according to what you said, you may stay with your friend. In this case, when you apply for the entry permit, you can ask your friend to issue an invitation letter to you and state in the letter that you will stay with her. If so, you don’t need to provide hotel reservation.
