I have US passport to visit HONG KONG from San Francisco,  stop at Shanghai. when I return to US,I have a ticket that date is 01/09/2016 (20:20 ) from H.K to Shanghai (22:40). Because the ticket that from Shanghai to San Francisco is 01/13/2016 (14:20).

Jimmy, anyway, I’m afraid you cannot use the 72 hour free transit because according to what you said above, your layover is more than 72 hours. You should apply for a transit G type or tourist L type ahead of time.
