Mui, it will be very cold in winter. Currently, the temperature in Urumqi is between -6 and -14 Celsius Degrees. I personally suggest that you shouldn't start a trip on the road in winter. If possible, you should go in July and August. Right now, there is only one direct train from Xian to Urumqi. K679 departs at 21:13 and arrive in 33 hours. Other trains just pass by Xian.
