HelloMy son is moving to Shenzhen in Jan 16 and myself and my husband plan to visit him in July. He has a z type. We will be flying to Hong Kong and travelling to him. Many thanks

Diane, UK passport holders can enjoy free entry to HK. As for Shenzhen, you can apply for a 5-days VOA. It will cost CNY304. But if you want to stay longer, you can apply for S type. Your son can issue an invitation letter to you. With the letter and other required documents, you can apply for it.
