The Routes / Tracks on the Emei Shan Mountain

Hi ,

Good day to you.

I am going to Emei Shan this New Year Eve. I am staying in Chengdu.

I have a few enquiries here :-

1) Do you think it is a good idea to travel Emei Shan Mount for day trip ? ( One-day trip ). I plan to take the earliest train from CD Station and reach Emei Shan Station at about 9am plus morning.

I do not plan to do hiking as my age is no longer young. My intention is to visit the Golden Summit and visit a few important temple on the mountain.

However , I do not find much info about the routes to the summit on the Internet or trip advisor or even lonely planet book. I need some info about the transportation from Emei Shan Train Station to the Golden Summit .

Also , I need some full details about the routes / the tracks on the mountain.

What times is the last bus to bring us from the summit to the foot of the mountain ?

2) If day trip is Not advisable , should we stay one more night at the foot of the mountain and climb up to the mountain on our first day and come down ?? On the second day , we continue to climb up to visit other temples again before we head back to CD?

3) I am able to converse in Mandarin. Do you think I need a guide to help me to travel Emei Shan ?

Your kind assistance is much appreciated.

Many Thanks here.

Brandon

1. One day is possible but far from enough to visit Emei. Most people spare two days for it and I stayed there for 3 days
2. From Emei Train station to Golden Summit:
Take bus 5A from the train station to the mountain foot (Baoguo Temple). Then take the sightseeing bus to Leidongping, walk for about 10-20 minutes to Jieyin Temple to take the cable car to Golden Summit.
Or you can take the direct long-distance bus to Leidongping from the train station if there is any (there are fewer of them than 5A)
3. The last schedule is different in peak season and low season. From November 10 to next January 31th, the last cable car from Golden Summit to Jieyin Temple is at 18:00 and the last bus from Leidongping is at 16:00.
4. Stay there for two days is advisable. But you are not advised to return to the mountain foot for the night. Going down and climbing up again will be a detour and a waste of time. There are hotels inside the scenic area, mostly around Qingyin Pavilion (near Wuxiangang Parking lot) and Leidongping parking lot. Just don’t except too much about the hotel facilities. But the ones at the mountain foot are not that good either (I stayed one night at mountain foot and two nights on the mountain).
5. If you can converse in Mandarin, a guide is unnecessary. But get a map of the mountain beforehand. Also, you can ask help from other travelers.

Since you are interested in the temples, you should not miss Wannian Temple, Jieyin Temple, and Qingyin Pavilion beside the Golden Summit. Here is a route for reference:
Take a bus to Leidongping-walk to Jieyin Temple (as you need to take the cable car to Golden Summit there) – Golden Summit- back to Jieyin Temple and then Leidongping- take a bus to wannian temple parking lot- hike or take cable car to Wannian temple- hike to Qingyin Pavilion or back to Wannian Temple parking lot to take a bus to Wuxianggang Parking lot then walk to Qingyin Pavilion- take a bus from Wuxiangang parking lot to mountain foot.
