About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Fly from Taipei to Shanghai and back to Taipei

I'm flying from Vietnam to taiwan and then back to Vietnam. Is it possible to visit Shanghai on 72 hour visa with a return ticket from Taiwan to shanghai?

Liam, could you tell me which passport do you hold? If you hold vietnam passport, I'm afraid you don't have access to the 72-hour free transit policy.

Doreen when I looked online to find information it mentioned you can get a 72 hour transit permit arriving from country A to Shanghai and then leaving Shanghai to country B.....does that mean i must depart from shanghai to a different country than which i arrived from? it was not clear in their explanation

Yes, you understand it correctly. So if you fly from Taiwan to Shanghai and then back to Vietnam directly, it's possible that you can enjoy the policy. The return ticket should be from Shanghai to a country or region other than Taiwan.
