About:China Visa

We will cruise and visit HK (2days) and Shanghai (only 1 day) in March 2016. Do we need visa So?

My wife is Australian citizen, I have Dutch passport. Stay in Shanghai less than 20 hours.

Fred, you two do not need the entry permit for HK as you can enjoy free entry policy there. For Shanghai, if you go to a third country or region after visiting Shanghai and the layover time is not over 24 hours, you don't need the entry permit either.

Thank you, Lindsay. You answer agrees with what I read on embassy websites etc, but both the travel agent and Princess Cruises say that a visa is needed. Best regards.

Amdeoz, I'm Lindsay. I got confused too. However, in the email, it only says that you can't use the 72-hour visa-free transit. But I said you can enjoy the 24-hour visa-free transit. They are different policies. So I still think it's possible for you to use it. I get this information from the posts on the website of the Chinese embassy and China Exit and Entry Admisnistration.

I also received a reply to my queryfromthe China consulate in Brisbane, as follows.

Dear Fred,
Thank you for your e-mail. You need to apply for a visa before you go, 72 hours visa free only apply to people fly in and out. If you currently based in QLD, you need to apply for a visa in our center.For detail visa requirements please visit the official website of CVASC.
