My husband and I will be travelling to China in Feb to see our son who has a Chinese girlfriend of about 18 months standing. I don't know if we will be invited to meet her family or not but would like to ensure that we have appropriate gifts to present to them if we are. We have only talked to our son's girlfriend over SkySkype and have not yet met her either.

Sarah, you just let your son to ask his GF whether it's ok for you two visit their parents. If you are invited, then you should bring small gifts, not only for the girl's parents but for the girl. For ladies, I think you can prepare perfume and other cosmetics for them. It's no need to buy expensive ones. Actually, some health products are also ok, for example, American ginseng.
