Hey, Gosia, how long will you stop in both Chengdu and Kunming? If the stopover time is less than 24 hours in total, you can sue the 24 hour direct transit. If not, you need to apply for G type.

Hi Hans, thank you for your prompt replay. The stop over in both directions is less than 24hr on each occasions. So it seems like in this case I can use the what you call '24hr direct transit', by which you mean I don't need to apply for anything and will be grated that 'permit' at the airport is that correct? Are you sure that applies to Polish citizens? Thanks for your help

Yes, you understand it correctly. You don't need to apply for anything except a temporary stay permit if you want to leave the airport. But you don't need to worry about it because you can get this at the airport for free. The pilicy works for Polish citizens, I'm sure.

Hi Hans, that's very helpful thanks for that. And for the temporary stay permit I can apply at the airport or need to go via embassy here in UK? Thanks

You can apply for it at the immigration counter at the airport.

Hi Hans, apologies to trouble you again, but I just got an info from Chineese embassy saying that the 72hr free transit applies only for Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou airports :( May I ask where do you get your information and how certain is it? Thanks

Gosia, you are using the 24-hour direct transit policy rather than the 72 hour free transit policy, so there won't be problems. By the way, the 72-hour free transit policy has been implemented in many Chinese cities now, including Chengdu and Kunming.
