About:Chinese Embassy in U.S.A.

I am going to be in Shanghai for 26 hrs. Can the 24 hr free transit policy apply?

Arriving LAX to PVG, 3:55 pm Dec 9.
Departing PVG to ORD (Chicago) Dec 10.
Don't think 72 hr policy applies. Would plan on staying at airport. If 24 hr cannot be applied, then do I need to apply for full tourist visa?

Hey, Greg, you are not eligible for the 24 hour direct transit because your route is not considered as valid transit. The free transit policy states that you should fly to a third country or region. Besides, you stop over for 26 hours. It's a little bit longer than 24 hours. You should apply for a G or L type ahead of your trip.
