need a visa for china?

Question

I am arriving in Shanghai on 28 November at 19:35 on UA198.  I depart for Bangkok on 29 November at 8:45 on TG663.  My flights are confirmed and so are my seats.  I also have a hotel reservation for Ramada Pudong Airport Shanghai.  Should I avail of the 72 hour free transit?  I am a US citizen with valid passport.Thank you for your prompt help!mark

As you just stay 13h in Shanghai you are fine with the 24h direct transit.Just get a temporary entry permit at the immigration and you can leave the airport for your hotel.
