You are right with the info. The route for HKIA is only for passengers who will leave HK by air, so you cannot use the approach to meet your boyfriend. Anyway, you can take a ferry from Maritime Terminal to HK-Macao Terminal first. Walk to Sheung Wan MTR station to take Island Line to Central and move to HK Station. There take the Airport Express to HKIA directly.
