About:Harbin Weather

Harbin in January Or February 2016?

I am thinking to go there either by end of January or February 2016 in order to visit the Ice Sculpture. Which will be a better choice? Next year Chinese New Year will be on the 8 February, should I visit it before the festive or say a week after that say 15 February 2016? I was informed due to climate change this winter temperature may not be as cold as the preceding year.

Hey, end of Jan. can be a better option. It will be the climax of the festival and you can see a lot. Well, the festival is very famous, so many Chinese people may also go there to experience a special New Year in early Feb. Just avoid that time! As the weather, it may be not as cold as the previous years, but still very cold. Do wear quality thermal clothing.

Thanks Gloria for the reply. What I have in mind is I try to avoid the huge crowd during the Chinese New Year period as queue can be long and time consuming, not to mention that the hotel rate can goes high in this peak period. A quick check from the web reveals that the air ticket there is also more expensive too from January to February. The ice sculptures may be still fresh during January as compare to February? I understand the climate is freezing and cold perhaps is unbearable, ay advice?

They will revise the ice sculptures every now and then till the end of the Ice and Snow Festival .So norry about that. But January has more festival atmosphere. For the freezing temp, just prepare and wear enough warm clothes. I see you come from warm Malaysia, it will be challenging for you. Be well prepared!

Exactly, I'm actually from north Borneo here whereby the climate is hot and humid all year round. Air ticket to the city is cheaper by the middle of Feb onwards, any good chance of experiencing the ice sculpture?

In the following week after mid Feb. you can still enjoy the sculptures. Don't worry! The festival actually will last till the end of Feb.

Thanks Lisa, I guess the crowd will slightly be lesser after 5 February and the Chinese New year festive. What about the beautiful colourful lighting on the sculpture?

Yes, you are right. As long as the festival is on, the corlorful lightings on the ice and snow sculptures will be displayed at night, so you will certainly be able to see it. Relax!
