other private affairs, can i get an S visa?

Hi, I am from Pakistan and would like to visit China to explore job opportunities in my field (architecture) and also want to study the way PRC has built throughout the history. It is not strictly an academic or professional endeavor, as I have friend who I have to meet as well. Can I qualify for an S entry permit under the category of "other private matters"?

Arsalan, it's hard for you to apply for S type by the reasons you mentioned above. Based on my experience, L type may be issued to you even you apply for the S type. Below is the telephone number of the embassy of PRC in Pakistan: 0092-51 8355016. You can call and ask about the details.
