I read in the newspaper that UAE citizens doesn't require a Chinese Visa if their trip is less than 72 hours. Could you confirm that please?

What you talked about is 72 hours free transit. To enjoy this free transit, you need to meet the requirements. You need to provide connecting air tickets to a third region or country and your passport. Of course, you should have valid entry permit to the third region or country. Even you are qualifed for the transit, you can only stay in the city where this free transit policy is implemented. You can't go to visit other cities.

It doesn't work if you fly from UAE, stay in a city and then get back to UAE again.
