Paul, I didn't hear that you need to show your cash to pass the customs. Chinese customs just allows passengers to take no more than 5000USD in cash. US customs require those who take more than 10000 USD should declare.

My friend who went to the US last year. He didn't take so much cash. He told me that you just needed to take a few hundred bucks in case you buy something or take a cab.

My friend is filipino and I think there giving her a hard time, she works there and she had $2000.00 usd cash and they wouldn't let her board because they stated she needed to show $4500.00 cash due to having a 6 month visa from Sept to Feb.to the U.S.I told her I never knew of people traveling with so much money and that is why if I have her on my bank account and she should evidence of adequate funds in a bank her in the U.S would that be enough?

Paul, if you are also a Filipino, then you'd better take cash because the samething already happened to your friend. If you aren't, I suggest you contact your airline to confirm this.
