About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Australian to London with stop in Shanghai

Hi,
I am traveling from Sydney to Shanghai then Shanghai to London. My layover is 17 hours in Shanghai. Should I apply for the 24 or 72 hour transit & can I leave the airport with both?
Thank you,
Amy

Amy, you should apply for the 24-hour free transit policy and you can leave the airport by applying for a temporary stay permit.

Amy, after you get off from the plane, fill the arrival card. Then show your passport, a confirmed onward ticket, along with your arrival card to the immigration office. Then the officer will stamp on your passport and you can leave the airport.
