Is it possible to convert M visa to Q1 or Q2 while travelling in China?

Hi I am from India and my wife is a Chinese citizen. We got married 2 years back and now Iam travelling in PRC with category M. I applied and got an extension for my M category entry permit till December. We are staying in Foshan and she is from Jiangxi. She is not employed and I don't work in PRC. Is it possible for me to convert my M type to Q type while I am in PRC itself ? If yes then is it possible to do it in Foshan itself or do we need to go to her home province in Jiangxi? If I get Q1 type how to change it to resident permit ? Thanks for your help.

Palani, it's possible to convert your M type to Q type. However, as both of you are unemployed, I can't guarantee you will certainly get the Q type. If you are living in Foshan for a long term and your wife has a temporary residence permit there, you can apply the Q type from there. Otherwise, you need to go to Jiangxi to apply. After you get the Q1 type, you should take a physical examination at a designated hospital first and then go to the local exit and entry administration to apply for the residence permit by submitting relevant materials, such as your passport, application form, registration form of temporary residence, an invitation letter from your wife, your marriage certificate, etc.
