About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Connection in PEK

Hello !!
I have a 14 hour layover in Beijing (PEK airport) & I wanted to go see the Great Wall before I boarded my flight to Japan. My question is can I do this? Do I need a Chinese visa for these few hours? I am a U.S. Permeant resident. Also how long would it take to see the Great Wall and return in time for my flight?
Thank you!

Danielle, you don't need the entry permit. What you need to do is to apply for a temporary stay permit at the airport. It takes about 2.5 hours from the airport to the Great Wall and three to five hours to visit the Wall, but you need to return to the airport at least two hours before the departure time. Please schedule your plan well.

Okay so all I need is a temporary permit & where do I get that at the airport? Can I do his in the Chinese embassy in New York? I don't want there to be a language barrier in China where I cannot explain myself?

Also but any chance would you happen to know when traveling to Japan from the USA do I need entry permit for that? Or just a stamp on my passport wil do?

You are such a great help thank you so much !!!

You can get the temporary stay permit at the immigration desk at the airport. You can't do this at the embassy in New York. I'm not sure whether you need the entry permit for Japan because I don't know your nationality.
