Is it recommended to come to Hong Kong during the chinese new year?

i was wondering if the shops will be closed?

Yes, New Year is a good time to visit this area. In addition, it could be still cool and comfortable.
The shops won't be close at that time. On the contrary, there will be a discount season. You can buy many luxury goods in cheap prices. The only worry is that it may be crowded there.
