visa for postdoctoral position

Dear All,

I have been offered postdoctoral position in Biology at Southwest University, Chongqing China.
University had send me the documents for study X type but Chinese consulate in Mumbai, India has returned my application stating postdoctoral candidate should apply for Work Z type.
Please do let me know am I eligible to apply for foreign expert certificate at SAFEA.
University official told me I cannot apply for Z type as according to them in PRC all the postdoctoral candidate are on study X type.
anyone doing postdoctoral in PRC on z type please respond

Thanks

Well, in fact, there are two contracting contradictory view points on whether postdoctoral position is a learning experience or working experience. As as fas I see, it's more like a working experience. Therefore, I agree with the embassy that you should apply for a Z type. I think it's possible that you can get the foreign expert certificate, but if you can't get it, it's ok too. You can ask the school to apply for a work permit for you.
