About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit visa obtained at home or in china?

Do I obtain the 72 hour free transit permit in Australia before I travel or in PRC when I land?

You can obtain it when you land in PRC. Keep in mind that you should notify the airline that you want to use this free transit policy before your arrival. If you transit in Beijing, you don't need to do so.
