any recommendation on a 7d f&e tour in kaoshiung, tainan to taichung?

We are a family of 4 adults traveling to Kaoshiung from 29Dec to 4 Jan16. We have visited Taipei few times and now would like to experience different parts of Taiwan. We would like to explore interesting places and try good local food. Any advise on the places to go, the accommodation and the transport? Do we need to buy the HSR ticker to travel between cities? What will be the weather like?Thank you.

In addition, you and your friends can experience the hot springs in the winter. As I know, there are many guest houses for you to choose. They can provide authentic local foods and snacks to you. 2. Generally speaking, high speed train is the main transportation that links these cities. It's convenient for you. There are always many schedules every day. So you can buy the tickets when you arriving at the train station. 3. About the weather, the previous weather data shows that it will be 45 F to 55 F. The climate will be a little bit cold. There maybe have several light rainy days. You are suggested to bring jackets, thin sweaters and pants.
