How do I get to drive my scooter to the airport flight gate for board and disboard within China?

I have been unable to drive my scooter to the boarding gates at the airport for my departing flghts in China and they also won't let me get my scooter at the arrival gate. They insist I drop it off at the baggage counter during check in and at the baggage carousel during arrival. This adds greatly the potential of a damage to my scooter as they treat it as any other kind of baggage, and makes it impossible to use airports within China. Same problem with the trains in China. Any experience that works? Please share!!

Richard, you should have to consign your scooter if you really plan to take it. In fact, you can ask for wheelchair service when you book your air ticket. It doesn't matter if you didn't. Just call your airline and ask for this service. You also can contact the airport to book this service too.

But they won't deliver it to me at the gate when I disembark from the plane. Also they would collect my scooter at the check-in counter instead of letting me driving it to the end of the gangway where I step onto the plane as I can in the USA where they will then carry or drive it down to load into the belly of the plane for storage without me having to walk one step besides directly from the entrance of the plane to my seat in the plane, which I can barely just accomplish. Anything more than that is beyond my abilities. Please explain how that can be accompished if that is possible. Thanks!

Richard, according to what I know, if you ask for the wheel service, you will get the wheel after get your boarding pass and check in your luggage. And someone else will use the chair to send you to the plane. If the airline informs the airport, you will see someone together with a wheelchair when your plane lands at the airport. He/she will take you from the plane to the airport. However, it depends on which airport you arrive. Some airports may not provide such service. Also there should be wheelchair on the plane too.

I suggest you contact your airline to consult if the provide wheel chair service. If they do, then you can ask how the service is provided.

May,

But this is where my problem is. When I get the wheel service, it does not help me one iota because the manual wheelchair they bring me, instead of my own scooter, is way way too narrow for me to sit in. My seat is 24.5 inches wide and the seat width of their wheelchair is at best 16 inches wide which will simply NOT accomodate me. Last time I went to China, when my seat was still more respectable at 23 inches wide, they actually forced me to the seat. You cannot imagine the pain it caused me at the end!! So I MUST have my scooter with me at the gate or else I cannot go. And I cannot even fly through China for stopover switch of planes for the same reason.

You can't bring your own scooter as carry-on luggage. Instead, you should check it in. This is the rule. As I suggested, please consult with your airline and see if they can do something. I don't have any better idea.
