I'm trying to do the 72 hour visa free to China...

Im a US citizen and have a valid passport. I will be traveling to Delhi, India--to -- Beijing--to-- Hong Kong. Is this possible to do? I will be in Beijing for 48 hours only. Having trouble finding anything online to see if this is possible.
