Is invitation letter is must for visit visa?

I want to visit china. I have a 3.5y old baby who will also travel with me and my husband already has multiple entry business M type of PRC.

My question is - if i provide hotel booking and airlines ticket, then do i need an invitation for the visit L type entry permit?

Generally speaking, if you can provide the hotel bookings and airline tickets, you don't need the invitation letter.
