About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Maximizing 72 Visa

Hi,
I’m flying to Beijing and then to Manila and trying to maximize my time in Beijing. I found a flight that would arrive at 5AM on November 10. So to be clear even though it is early morning my 72 hour visa would be starting midnight of the 11 (late night 10th)? Does this mean can then stay until 11:59 PM, November 13? So in effect I’m getting an extra day which would be great. Just wanted to know if anyone has tried this with very early AM flights. Also my ticket out of Beijing is a different airlines than the one I arrived in (booked independently). Can you see any problems with this schedule?

Thanks,
Nate

Nate, you can maximize the layover period like this if you transit in other cities, but you can't do this in Beijing. The layover period is not calculated from the midnight of the following day there, but from the moment you have gone through all the formalities. So if you want to stay longer than 72 hours, it's advised to transit in other cities. It's OK to buy tickets from different airlines.
