I am going on a Yangtze cruise around oct. 24. What clothes do I need?

Angela, the temperatures in Chongqing and Yichang are almost the same, 15 to 23 Celsius Degrees. However, the temperature difference is sharp. It might a bit cold in the morning but hot in the afternoon. Besides, it's windy on the river. Therefore, I think you need to bring a jacket / windbreaker, casual clothes like T-shirts and a formal dress needed at the welcoming and farewell parties. And do not forget to bring your sun glasses and sunscreen to avoid sunburn.

Is it better to go upstream or downstream on the Yangtze cruise. I am going to Guilin after the cruise.

Angela, upstream cruise is usually cheaper. Because the ship runs very slowly (15 to 18 km per hour), you have enough time to visit the attractions along the river. However, the whole journey is longer than downstream cruise. If you have enough time, you might do upstream cruise.
