I am an American citizen currently residing in Korea. I plan to be in Beijing for two days solely to visit the Mutianyu Great Wall. Do I need an entry permit?

If you fly from Korea to Beijing and then back to Korea, you will need the entry permit. If you fly to a third country, you don't need the entry permit because the 72-hour free transit policy is applicable in that case.
